Parent Outreach offers FREE confidential in-home or onsite support and counselling. This program is available to families with children up to the age of 14. The Parent Outreach Counsellor works collaboratively with families to develop a parenting plan through education, learning resources, community resources and referral information.

Support for Children Affected by a Family  Member’s Mental Health Issues

“Kids in Control,”

offers education and support to children between the ages of 8-13 years who have been affected by a parent/family
member’s mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar  disorder, and schizophrenia.

This group provides knowledge about mental health challenges in a safe,
accepting environment where kids can connect with others who have
similar experience.
❖ 8 sessions, meeting once a week for 1 ½ hours
❖ Arts, crafts, and interactive learning opportunities
❖ Next Group begins April 11-May 30, 2018 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm

The first session of Langley Community Services Skills to Success youth employment program wrapped up and a second has started.

LANGLEY CITY, BC, February 6, 2018 – The Skills to Success Program that is implemented by Langley Community Services Society (LCSS), located at 5339 207th Street, Langley will have its graduation on Friday, February 16 at 12:00 PM.

The graduation will be graced by a member of the parliament, Mr. John Aldag, who will be handing out the certificate to commemorate the first milestone of the said program. The Skills to Success program started in October 2017 and will end on March 2020 hoping to help 95 participants in total.

The initial group consisting of 7 participants were in the 16-week program that include 6 weeks in class and 10 weeks at the job. The participants who were new immigrants started out as unemployed with some employment barriers but are now enjoying working on their current jobs.

Skills to Success is the first youth employment program of its kind in Langley. It is designed to assist youth into the labour market in BC. The program is funded by the Government of Canada’s Skills Link program with the objective to help youth overcome barriers to employment; to help youth develop a broad range of skills and knowledge to participate in the current and future labour market; and to promote education and skills as being key to labour market participation.

Currently, the second group consisting of 13 participants just started the program and are looking forward to landing a job soon. With the first group of participants working and the second group in class, interests amongst the youth sector has been spreading in both the City and the Township of Langley. Interested participants for the Skills to Success program are encouraged to connect with LCSS regarding their eligibility for the program.

Eligibility criteria for the program are:

Clients between the ages of 15-30 years old

Canadian citizen (not born in Canada), permanent resident, confirmed refugee status, or youth with disability

Legally entitled to work in Canada

Not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits

A member of the visible or ethnic minority

Out of school and unemployed
