Canada Post Foundation

Langley Community Services Society is delighted to be the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Canada Post Community Foundation. The generous funds will be applied to the Family Place program LCSS operates in North Langley (Willoughby / Walnut Grove). The $10,000 will allow an additional day to be added to our weekly offerings. Currently the Family Place North program is run Tuesdays & Thursdays at the Walnut Grove Community Centre. As of January 2014, the program will expand to 3 days per week.

Family Place is a free, drop-in program for caregivers and their children aged 0-6 years. Family Place is grounded in the belief that consistent, positive parenting practices and secure, healthy parent-child relationships are fundamental factors in all aspects of healthy child development. The LCSS Family Place program is committed to 5 core service areas: family support; play-based learning; early learning and literacy; parent education and learning; and information and referral.

The mission of the Canada Post Community Foundation is to make a positive impact in the lives of children in the communities Canada Post serves by supporting registered charities, school programs or local initiatives that benefit children. Through various programs, Canada Post employees and retirees have devoted countless hours to initiatives that improve the lives of children. By raising both awareness and funds, Canada Post will support the volunteers, and local and national non-profit groups that work every day to deliver a brighter future for Canadian children.

Our very own Sue Noble was featured in a recent article in the Langley Advance.  Sue participated in an addiction awareness/education event and shared her vast knowledge and expertise at the Homelessness Action Week Connect Event.

Thanks to some incredibly generous volunteers, and their employers, Langley Community Services Society is about to look a whole lot fancier!

On October 4th the great folks from the Langley branch of Deloitte will brighten up the walls of both the Substance Use Services offices and the Family Connections family-meeting space.  That is a lot of painting!  LCSS is incredibly appreciative of the donation of both a colour consultation and Benjamin Moore paint from North Langley Paint & Decorating, in Walnut Grove.

On October 10th staff from the Langley branch of RBC are transforming into gardeners and completing a big Fall cleanup of the property.

It is thanks to the coordination of the United Way that LCSS is benefitting from so much volunteer help.  The Vancouver Sun United Way Day of Caring brings United Way donors and funded agencies together to complete one-day projects.  Day of Caring connects donors to meaningful projects where they can see and learn first-hand the impact of their gift on children, families and seniors in the community.

Do you have questions about drugs and alcohol?  Do you, or someone you know, have trouble setting limits?  Join staff from the Substance Use Services program of the Langley Community Services Society for a FREE information session all about drug and alcohol use.  You will learn about the effects of these substances on a person’s health, as well as what counseling services are available in Langley.

IMS Capital Items

Langley Community Services Society would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Government of British Columbia for their grant of $3,000.00 to purchase capital items for our Immigration and Multicultural Services Program.  With this funding, the IMS Program has purchased a new meeting table and chairs for their clients, a new LCD Projector, a new storage cabinet, and a TV and DVD Player.  All of these items were desperately needed by the IMS Program and LCSS greatly appreciates the Government of British Columbia’s contribution.

Terra Tea Solutions

Thank you to Terra Tea Solutions for their generous donation of organic fertilizer for the LCSS Community Gardens.
Terra Tea Solution’s liquid compost extract or “Tea” supports the soil food web, with beneficial microorganisms that play a vital role in keeping the soil healthy. The compost tea puts the “good” biology back into the soil. LCSS is eagerly looking forward to a healthy more robust crop of vegetables this summer. Thank you Terra Tea Solutions!
